When I first moved to Dubai, a trip to S*uce made me feel like I belonged—they gave me hope that in my brand-obsessed city, I could meet friends who stood out by insisting on their own individual style. S*uce isn’t afraid to be playful and daring. I adore their unapologetic obsession with unicorns, exaggerated ruffles, and epaulets. Safa Park is my favorite place to write poetry and in Winter I have a weekly Wednesday morning ritual of breakfast and writing in the park followed by a swing through S*uce Gifts in Al Wasl Square.
Recently S*uce Gifts made my 24 hour shopping dreams come true by installing a vending machine called The Gift Machine just beyond their boutique doors. This is not the library vending machine of your university exam days. Instant soup, candy bars, and ice cold diet sodas are not on tap.
The vending machine offers a thoughtfully curated selection of gifts and accessories, many of them designed regionally. The selections will be changed on a monthly basis. Some of my current favorites are the Lady Gahwa t-shirt by Day N’Age and the notebooks by Saudi illustrator Fyunka (including her beloved classic, which translated into English reads, “Daddy I want a Birkin”).
I imagine the vending machine will prove handy as I dash off to a birthday or dinner party and need to pick up a last minute gift. Please don’t judge me if you find me standing in front of it late at night in my yoga clothes and a ponytail. I hope this marks the beginning of a vending machine craze and soon I’ll be able to pick up cupcakes, art, and even shoes whenever I have a craving.
You can visit The Gift Machine 24/7 at S*uce Gifts at Al Wasl Square in Dubai. Like everything else in Dubai it will happily nibble on credit cards.
