QUOZhappens To Dubai Once Again On 23 November

QUOZhappens is an entirely free day and night of art, music, and culture in Al Quoz coordinated in tandem by Art in the City and Alserkal Avenue. It would be appalling to miss out! Imagine openings, a farmer’s market, independent fashion, art and design talks, and short films. There is even a bus that will pick you up at convenient metro stops and Times Square Mall so that you can avoid getting terribly lost, an experience that is part of the charm of my favorite Dubai neighborhood. All the galleries will be wide open and there are a number of special events.

Yesterday I dropped by Alserkal Avenue for a quick preview of the district’s new A4 pop up space. It’s a whole loft that will be used exclusively for pop up galleries, markets, and events. Pop up markets, shops, galleries, and restaurants are very en vogue in Dubai these days, much to my delight. I see their existence as a very positive sign that the creative scene is growing as is the appreciation for entrepreneurship in the arts.

At QUOZhappens, the A4 pop up space will be hosting Art Dubai and Dubai International Film Festival. The only problem is that the space is still in cinder blocks and has to be completed before Saturday’s festival. Eeek! If anyone can pull off finishing something important extra fast, it’s the people running Alserkal Avenue. I will snap an “after” pic on Saturday, but here is the “before” that I was shown on Sunday:

Here are my top picks for the day:
